Obituary for Billy Joe Gulick

Billy Joe Gulick of Eureka, Kansas died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at his home in Eureka, at the age of 75.

He was born on August 26, 1935, near Cleo Springs, Oklahoma, the son of Roscoe Carl and Allene (Doramus) Gulick. He was raised in Elm Flat and Cleo Springs, Oklahoma, graduating from Cleo Springs High School with the class of 1954. After his schooling, Bill served 2½ years in the United States Army.

In 1958, he was united in marriage to Gina Wagner in Germany. They made their home in the Los Angeles area where Bill worked as a plumber. To this union, two children were born, Lori Jo and Roscoe Scott.

In 1974, he moved his family to Toronto, Kansas where he continued his plumbing trade as well as being a business man owning Toronto Hardware, Bill's Place, and the Marina & Heated Dock at Toronto Lake. Bill also worked at the Toronto Post Office, was on the City Council, and was a member of the Toronto Booster Club.

In 1983, Bill was united in marriage to Janet (Talley) Snavely in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Together they owned and operated Gulick Liquor in Toronto before moving to Eureka in 1994. Bill managed Stanley Hardware in Eureka for eight years, retiring in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of the home; one daughter... of McFarland, Kansas; two step-daughters, ... of El Dorado Hills, California, and ... of Eureka, Kansas; one son, ... of Raymore, Missouri; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patsy Green of Lompoc, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Gulick, and half-brother, Warren Powell.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Greenwood County Home Health. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is in charge of service arrangements.
