Mrs. Lurlene (Rainey) Koonce 84, of Jena, Louisiana was received into Heaven on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.

She was born to the union of Felix Levi and Virgie Mae (Carter) Rainey on September 6, 1927 in Attala County, Mississippi.

Mrs. Koonce was a retired school teacher, having taught for 30 years, 25 of those in Louisiana. She was a faithful Christian and a long time member of the Jena First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of American Revolution, Senior Adult Choir, teacher for Vacation Bible School and a member of the Women Missionary Union as well as the leader.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Koonce, her parents and three brothers, Percy Rainey, Paul Rainey, and Tracy Rainey.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sarah Farmer of Bel Air, Maryland; two grandsons, John Farmer and Wade Farmer; one granddaughter, Hannah Farmer; one sister, Anne Hambrick & husband, John Q of Memphis, Tennessee; a special nephew, Paul S. Rainey and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm and on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 8:30am until time of service. Services will be held in the Chapel of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 2:00pm with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo and Rev. Johnnie Phillips officiating. Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1:00pm in the McCool City Cemetery, McCool, Mississippi, with a memorial service following in the McCool First Baptist Church at 1:30pm with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating.

Pallbearers are K.P. Wilson, Wendel Wilson, Paul Rainey, Gary Compton, John Farmer and Wade Farmer, James M. Hambrick and Sam Baker. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Bradley, Clay White, John Hambrick, Bruce Wilson, N.H. Poole, and Cleo Nichols.
