Funeral services for Marilyn Heppner, age 83, of Norfolk, will be held Friday September 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Norfolk, with burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk.

Marilyn died Sunday September 11, 2011 at Faith Regional Health Services at Norfolk.

Marilyn Jean (Acker) Heppner, daughter of Frank and Virginia Acker was born November 10, 1927 at Fremont, Nebraska. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1945. On September 11, 1946, she married Darel Heppner at Madison, Nebraska. Three sons were born to them, Darel Wayne, Virgil Frank and Gary Doyle.

She lived in Norfolk, Nebraska and worked at Madison Co-op Creamery, Riverside Ball Room, Dale Electronics and Norfolk VFW. Marilyn was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a Life Member of PTA, VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Marilyn was a past President of VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She made poppies and corsages for many Legion functions. For her many years of service to the Norfolk Veterans Home totaling 7500 hours, she received a pin and a citation from the President and was awarded the Honorary Title of Admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Marilyn was very proud of this award. One of the things that she did for many years was go Christmas shopping and wrap the presents for all the residences of the Norfolk Veterans Home. She was a past queen of the Norfolk Women's Bowling Association, and inducted into the Norfolk Bowling Hall of Fame. Marilyn was also a Gold Star Sister and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Darel; children, Wayne and his wife Cora Heppner of Battle Creek, NE, Virgil and his wife Vaneta Heppner of Gretna, NE, and Gary and his wife Denise Heppner of Norfolk, NE; grandchildren, Tammy (Brad) Schaecher, Robert Heppner, Jarod Heppner, Colton Miller, Emily Heppner, Amanda (Steve) Schmit, Gary (G.J.) Heppner, Rebecca Heppner, Bryan, Scott and Nick Collins; great grandchildren, Jordan, Aaron, Shawna and Tessa Schaecher, Devan and Bryce Schmit, and Kolbie Heppner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia; brothers, Franklin (Norwood) and Doyle Acker; sisters, Glee Petersen, Joy Weitzenkamp, Marge Kettelson and Joanne Mortonson.
