Mr. Gilbert was the son of John C. and Catherine GILBERT.

Mr. Gilbert married Miss Mary Jane Hollenback on April 8, 1886 in Pike County, Missouri at the bride's home.

At the age of twenty he came to Missouri settling in Pike county where he spent the remainder of his life with the exception of three years which he lived at Center.

In April 1885 he was married to Mary Jane Hollenback and to this union ten children were born all of whom survive him except one, Oscar, who died at the age of three years. He was converted and joined the Peno Baptist church in 1896 and has been a faithful member since that time.

Mr. Gilbert was survived by his wife, two sons, and seven daughters. Twenty-three grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other more distant relatives. He passed away at his home July 22, 1940 at the age of 74 years, eight months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held at Peno church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. Admire. The songs "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "God Be With You" and "Rock of Ages" were sung.
