ANDREW THOMAS OAKES
Andrew Thomas Oakes was born in Bates County, Missouri August 2, 1881. He departed this life December 13, 1953 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 11 days.
He came to Kansas when he was 17 years old and lived the remainder of his life in Gove and Sheridan counties.
He was the father of four children, one girl and three boys. His daughter Elsie preceded him in death in 1928.
He was baptized and united with the Methodist church in Grinnell March 2, 1923. He leaves his three sons, Ralph of Westminster, Colo., Lloyd of Golden, Colo., and Howard of Quinter; three grandsons, four granddaughters and one great grandson. Two brothers, Fred Oakes of Hugo, Colo., and Leslie Oakes of Mississippi. Other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 Wednesday, December 16 in the Methodist church in Grinnell, Rev. E. W. McNeil, officiating, with burial in Grinnell cemetery, Rueschhoff funeral home in charge.
The singers were Mrs. Sloan, Miss Clark, John Borah and Melvin Torrey. Mrs. Boyd Scott was pianist. The pall bearers were Ted Friesen, Archie Bartlett, Russell Sites, Arlie Hoover, Ray Schmidt and John Wolfe.

MAN FOUND LYING IN SNOW IN YARD
Grinnell---Andr. Oakes who was found in the yard in the snow at his home Wednesday morning of last week about 9 a.m. died Sunday night at the Gove County hospital.
Oakes had been found by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Leiker who were passing the Oakes place and were attracted by Oakes who was waving his hand in order to secure help.
Just how long Oakes lay in the snow and what happened in unknown. He was quite cold but not frozen, and could not give details.
He was taken to the Gove County Hospital at Quinter by Rueschhoff ambulance.
