US Congressman. Served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Elected to represent Illinois's 22nd and 23rd Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1959 to 1979. Also served as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Illinois in 1972, Deputy Sheriff of Richland County, Illinois, from 1950 to 1954, and Sheriff of Richland County, Illinois, from 1954 to 1958.
