(Special Dispatch to the Baltimore Sun)
Richmond, Va., Feb. 19 - Capt. George R. Talcott, United States engineer in charge of James River improvements here, died suddenly yesterday of heart disease. He died at his post of duty. The ice gorge in the river occupied his attention, and he was planning and about to put into execution means which he thought would break up the gorge, letting the pent-up water pass down with as little damage as possible. This work called him to the riverside in Fulton. He was in company with Mr. Hamilton Curtis at the time. He gave Mr. Curtis a message to deliver, but had hardly spoken the words when he reeled, and when Mr. Curtis caught him both men fell together. Captain Talcott died in a few seconds. A telegram was sent to Captain Talcotts wife, who was visiting at Annapolis. He was a son of Col. Andrew Talcott, a distinguished engineer, and a brother of Col. T.M. Talcott, of Richmond. Captain Talcott was about fifty-five years of age.
