Jacob was the brother of Rev. Daniel Cripe, memorial #19836899. This fact is verified by two newspaper articles:
1. "Six Hundred Members of Cripe Family Hold Reunion in Goshen Today," Goshen Daily Democrat, 29 August 1908; digital image, newspaperarchive.com "The Cripes of Elkhart, Kosciusko, St. Joseph, Marshall and Lagrange counties are descended from two brothers, Daniel and Jacob Cripe who came to this county in 1829;”
2. "Reunion of Cripe Family," Goshen Mid-week News, 7 September 1909; digital image, newspaperarchive.com "Daniel Cripe and his brother Jacob Cripe." “Samuel Cripe, a son of Daniel, had 17 children.”

I have spent about a year and a half documenting the fact of Jacob's father, who was Jacob, a son of the immigrant Jacob Greib/Cripe. I found no direct evidence of this relationship. Therefore, my plan was to document the sons of the other three brothers and sons of the immigrant: John, Daniel and Samuel to show that they could NOT be the father of Jacob (1767-1865). I was working from information that Don Bowman and others gathered many years ago, but did not document, since that was not considered important at that time. Using the results of earlier Cripe researchers, I believe I have documented this relationship using indirect evidence. I found no documents to dispute this, and have convinced myself that the family does not fit together in any other way.

Documenting his mother is another story.
Many believe his mother was Barbara Scheidler/Shidler. Nobody seems to know where this information came from, and I have been unable to even verify that Johann George Shidler had any daughters. I prefer to state that his mother is unknown at this time. Nothing more specific can be verified at this time. (2018)

Documentation for Jacob's wife, Magdalena Bostetter is found in her father's will (Andrew Bostetter), where he mentions his son-in-law Jacob Gribe. He also mentions his grandson, John Gribe
