Caleb I Ball was said to be the first Collector of Hanover, Morris, NJ. He owned land, a forge and saw-mill, which he and his sons operated and which he later left to them after he died. He was also said to have been Clerk of Courts and Sheriff of Essex Co. N.J.

Caleb II Ball became owner of one-sixth of the 'Old Iron Works,' the common name for the Budd-Ford forge. He left a will on 25 July 1748 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ; the will of Caleb II Ball dated 25 July 1748 at Hanover, Morris Co., NJ, lists sons Isaiah, Joshua, Caleb, Ezekiel, Mathew, as well as daughters Abigail Johnson, Eliner Ball, Jane Perry, Mary Bates, Sarah Ball, Lydia Ball, Ann Ball, Deborah Ball, and Keziah Kitchel (deceased with heirs.) The will of Caleb II Ball was proven 29 August 1748

1748, July 25. BALL, Caleb, of Hanover, Morris Co., gentleman; will of
Wife, Sarah.
Sons - Isaiah (to have 100 acres bought of Peter Imlay); Joshua (the land he lives on); Caleb (the home-place land on the south side of Forge Pond, and 26 acres adjoining W. land bought of Peter Imlay), and above named sons to have the forge, saw-mill and stream equally; Exekiel (80 odd acres on both sides of "Wepemy River" where the old saw-mill stood, as appears by deed of Joseph Lindsley); and Mathew.
Daughters - Abigail Johnson, Eliner, Jane Perry, Mary Bates, Sarah, Lydia, Ann, Deborah and Keziah Kitchel, deceased (had heirs). Executors - Wife, Sarah and sons Isaiah, Joshua and Caleb. Witnesses - David Kitchel, Timothy Tuttle, Elijah Gillett. Proved 29 Aug. 1748. (Lib. 6, p. 34)

Caleb I Ball, was born about 1663 in Conn. and died Aft. 1716 in Millbrook, Essex Co. N.J. He was the son of Edward Ball and Abigail Blatchley. He married Sarah Thompson about 1684.

Sarah Thompson was born 25 March, 1667 and died in 1707. She was the daughter of John Thompson, Sr.
