The end was not unexpected, because Ada had been ill for a number of weeks. Her death brings to a close the career of a woman who was gifted with many personal charms and endowed with a feeling for the distressed which was shown in giving, in a quiet and unostentacious manner, where circumstances indicated that relief was in demand. She was, at the same time, devoted to religious work, and for many years was prominent among the zealous members of the First Presbyterian Church of Alameda.
Ada was a native of Australia. She was a daughter of George and Ann Hobler. She came to California when a mere girl, and, during the past thirty-nine years, she made her home in Alameda. It was here that she formed friendships which survived the passing of years, and which cause general regret now that, with all her womanly qualities, she has been called away.
Ada leaves no children. Her husband, Judge Ellsworth, to whom she was married on April 17, 1892, in Alameda, who feels his bereavement greatly, has the sympathy of hosts of friends.
