Mrs. Mary S. Howard, 76, who had been ill the last seven years, died at 9:30 yesterday morning in East Moline. Services will be held in the Esterdahl funeral home in Moline at 2 Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. A. W. Kortkamp of the Full Gospel tabernacle officiating. Burial will be In the family lot in Bethesda cemetery at Hillsdale. Mary M. Sheppard, second daughter of William C. and Tamar C. Sheppard, was born on a farm in Zuma township near Hillsdale Sept. 24, 1860. She was educated in rural schools of that community. She at tended Erie high' school in 1878. In 1880 she was married to Ellis T. Howard, also a native resident of the Hillsdale community. When they were married he was depot agent for the Burlington railroad in Hillsdale. In 1883 they moved to Chicago, where he continued to work as a railroad man for forty-five years. In 1925 they returned to Hillsdale and constructed a new house. In 1927 Mr. Howard died. Mrs. Howard was a charter member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chicago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Stephen H. Ward of Moline; one brother, Frank E. Sheppard of Indian River City. Fla., and several nieces and one nephew. One son died forty-three years ago.
