County Judge of Clay County, Deptury Circuit Court Clerk, and gospel preacher listed in Preachers of Today, Vol. 1, 1952, 174. He was baptized by J. P. Watson in July 1912. He received his training at Dixie College in Cookeville and Vanderbilt University. He participated in three debates: Rich-Hunter, Hunter-Sloan, and Belyeu-Hunter. His parents were Stephen and Alice Thompkins Hunter. He married Sarah Johnson on 12-23-1912. After her death, he married Bertha Bilbrey Winningham on 8-20-1973. He authored of three books, "Gleanings From the Field," "The Prodigal Son," and "The Home."

Mr. Hunter was a great-great grandson of Gov. John Sevier, a hero at the Battle of King's Mountain, and one of the founders and first governor of Tennessee [30 March 1796 – 23 September 1801].
