Memorial visitation for Leonard `Len' Dean McCracken, 71, of Arlington Heights, will be held Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 7 p.m., at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights.
Born June 18, 1927, in Highland, Ill.,he died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at his home. Interment will be private in Woodland Cemetery, McHenry.
Mr.McCracken worked for Wilson Sporting Goods in River Grove for 41 years in the research and development department, retiring in 1988. He attended McHenry schools, graduating with the class of 1945.
After high school, he served in the Navy, then attended Northern Illinois University of DeKalb, graduating in 1950. Mr. McCracken wasa very active member of the New Tradition Chorus of Northbrook.
They are currently the International S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. silver medalists.
His love of barber shop singing followed him for 47 years. He was also an avid tennis and golf player.
He was the husband of the late Joan H. (nee Mart), whom he married on July 5, 1952, and who preceded him in death on Feb.10, 1990; father of Jane A. (Bob) Swenson of Poplar Grove and Paul D. (Sally) McCracken of Bartlett; grandfather of Tim McCracken and Gary, Chris and Eric Oden; brother of Patti (Jim) Vickery of Crystal Lake and Don (Joan) McCracken of Horton, Mich.; and son of the late Leonard and Cleda McCracken.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the New Tradition Chorus, P.O. Box 2235, Northbrook, IL 60065.
