Rev. Lester Blackerby
Funeral services for Rev. Lester Blackerby, age 82, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 1993 in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon with Rev. C.L. Bryant, Pastor of the Central Baptist church in Mineola, Rev. James M. Rogers, Pastor of the Pecan Baptist Church in Robert Lee, and Rev. Truman Ledbetter, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in Citizens Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Rev. Blackerby died at 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 1993 in the Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude following a lengthy illness. He was born January 29, 1911 in Parker County, Texas and came from Fort Worth to Clarendon 13 years ago. He married Clytis P. Rogers on March 28, 1931 at Stamford, Jones County, Texas. He had been a Baptist minister from 1953 until retiring in 1990 from the Lakeview Baptist Church. He had pastored 11 churches during his ministry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Laura and by two brothers, Kyle Blackerby and Clarence Blackerby.
Survivors include his wife, Clytis P. Blackerby of Clarendon, Texas; three daughters, Beth Walker of Clarendon, Texas, Jo Ann Selvidge of Clarendon, Texas, Jackie Ricks of Mineola, Texas; two sons, Jerry Blackerby of Carrollton, Texas, Jimmy Blackerby of Clarendon, Texas; three sisters, Clemmie Garvin of Fort Worth, Texas, Connie Graves of Mineral Wells, Texas, Lessie Garvin of Abilene, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Roy Lee Helms, Johnny Leathers, Darrell Leffew, Jiggs Mann, Bob Trout, Dave Croslin, Allen Lundy, and W.J. "Junior" Wilhite.
Honorary bearers were Baptist Deacons.
The family requests that memorials be to the First Baptist Church TV ministry of Baptist Missions c/o First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
