Fannie is a daughter of Richard Gambill (1769–1839) and Elizabeth Tunstall (?–?). She married Henry Jouett Tapp (1795–1830) on 12 Dec 1822 in Albemarle County, Virgnia; they had no children. She married, second, Peter M. Meriwether on 3 Oct 1836 in Rappahannock or Essex County, Virginia; they also had no biological children, but adopted George H. Geiger Jr., son of Henry Tapp's sister, Susannah Tapp and her husband George Geiger.
