Lonnie Spurlock of Waco, p; died Thursday, October 10 at a local hospital. Graveside services with a Masonic ceremony will be 3 PM Monday at Rosemound Cemetery, Rev. Bryan Thornburg officiating. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 PM Sunday at BrookView Funeral Home.
Mr Spurlock was born August 27, 1900, in Lott. He attended Bucks Academy, Baylor University, Tyler Commercial College and American Institution of Banking. After receiving his higher learning, Brother Spurlock not only worked in the banking field for 30 years but also was a Captain in the U.S. Army in World War II, serving in the finance division. He was a member of J. H. Gurley Lodge #337 AF & AM, the Waco Scottish Rite Bodies, the York Rite Bodies of Waco and Karem Temple. He was a member and a Deacon in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Waco since 1934, serving also as a Sunday School teacher and in other offices in the church. He was a daily Bible reader. He was a Chaplain of D.A.V. Post #3, past Chaplain of District 11 Odd Fellows and life-member of the American Legion. He also contributed greatly to the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years, most of which as Scout Leader, Lonnie Spurlock was a man who loved people and never met too many strangers.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Spurlock; son, Cecil Dugan; sisters Hallie Harkins and Alene Harwick; grandchildren, Brent and Carrie Dugan and Cindy Walker, great-grandchildren, Shaun and Chris Bolton and Austin Walker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
