He was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Peoria to Bruce and Cora (Servier) George.
He married Delores "Dee" Thomas on July 5, 1953, in Peoria. She survives, along with two twin daughters, Marlies Schmidt of East Peoria and Sieglinde Feidengruber of Germany; one granddaughter, Michele Schmidt of East Peoria; one great-grandson, Ryan Schmidt of East Peoria; one great-granddaughter, Molly Kuehn of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Lynne, Sandra and Karen George; two sisters, Francis Billington and Gladys Ary; and one brother, Raymond George.
Leonard worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years, retiring June 1, 1982.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1948 until his discharge in 1951. He served in the Korean War from August 1950 to October 1951.
He was a lifetime member of the East Peoria VFW Post 2078, where he served as post chaplain, post commander, and was in charge of the post Military Honor Guard.
He also was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Bartonville American Legion Post 979, a lifetime member of the Peoria AMVETS Post 64, Korean War Veterans Association, Masonic Hilton Lodge in East Peoria, and a member of the Abbas Grotto in East Peoria.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, with military rites by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
