Herbert M. Steiner, 88, of New Holstein, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 13, 2004. at the Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Charlesburg a son of the late Anton and Anna Bell Steiner. Herbert attended St. Charles grade school in Charlesburg. On June 1, 1937, he married Marian Morgan at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein.
He retired from the M-B Company in New Holstein in 1979. Herbert was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein where he also served as an usher for 25 years. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen for 10 years and had been a member of the New Holstein Fire Department for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marian of New Holstein; a son, James (Judy) Steiner of Muskego; two daughters, Janice Lee (Anton) Hoekstra of New Holstein and Juanita (Peter) Pawlisch of Punta Gorda, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Kathy) Hoekstra, Julianne (Dean) Zwart, Robert (Erin) Hoekstra, Matthew (Leigh) Hoekstra, Jenny (Don) Belich, Mike (Cathy) Steiner and Lissa Pawlisch-Bailey and her husband Wil; eight great-grandchildren, Kellie Hoekstra, Spenser, Gabrielle and Morgan Zwart, Lucas and Abby Belich and Breanna Steiner.
Further survived by a brother, Eugene (Rosie) Steiner of New Holstein; two sisters, Aurelia Lodes of Chilton and Asella Geiser of Chanhassen, Minn.; his sisters-in-law, Romilda Steiner of New Holstein, Dorothy Steiner of Largo, Fla., Loretta Morgan of Sheboygan, Verena (Eugene) Fuhrmann of New Holstein and Bernice Paulson of Hot Springs, Ark.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Stephen Hoekstra; two brothers, Erwin and Elroy Steiner; six brothers-and sisters-in-law, Norbert Lodes, Leo Geiser, Alvin Morgan, Edward (Marian) Morgan, Marshall Paulson and Leona (Larry) Holzmann.
Services: A funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Frank Weber will officiate. Inurnment will take place in die parish cemetery. Visitation: Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. A memorial fund will be established in his name. The Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein is assisting the family.
