Ermal Loghry, 78, of 410 Hutchinson Ave., died Monday, Nov. 20, 1995, at University Hospitals after a long illness. Memorial services will begin Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Congregational Church UCC. Private family graveside services were today. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Foundation for the Athletic Department of to the Congregational Church. Donohue-Lensing funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Loghry was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Clarinda to Charles and Wilma (Lyman) Loghry. [He married Ruth Marr in 1938, they divorced in 1946.] He married Margaret Williams on April 18, 1947, in Iowa City. He was owner of Loghry's Drive-In and the Carousel Restaurant, both in Coralville. He retired in 1984.
He was past president of the Iowa State Restaurant Association; the first president of the Iowa Licensed Beverage Association and a past president of the Coralville Chamber of Commerce. He was a 50-year member of the following groups: Clarksville Lodge AF&AM; White Shrine of Jerusalem; Iowa City Chapter No. 2 RAM, Swafford Council No. 28 R&SM; and Palestine Commandery NO. 2 KT.
He was also a member of the University of Iowa President's Club and an honorary letterman. He served on the board of trustees for the Congregational Church UCC and was a University Hospitals volunteer.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter Kristin (Cary) Beatty of North Liberty; and one sister, Viola Lons of Iowa City. His parents, three brothers and one sister died earlier.
