Andy married Vida Fern Long on December 27, 1946 in Linn. They settled in Topeka, where he taught leather working at Washburn University and worked for Hilmer's Leather Shop.
In 1951, he and Vi started Anderson's Leather Shop in Salina, serving the city for over 58 years. He was a deputy sheriff for approximately twenty years and Commander and Chief of the Saline County Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad for 15 years.
Andy's passions were the Mounted Rescue Squad, Downtown Salina, Shorthorn cattle ranching and his family. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Salina Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Nola, Geneva, Helen, Sam, Lars, Severt, Chester, Lester, Glenn, Jack, Kenneth and Ernest.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Vi Anderson; daughter, Renee Lynn Muller; four grandchildren, Wade Daniel Markley, Ward Andrew Markley, Rommy Kerstin Engel and Tali Michelle Kulbeda and eight great-granchildren, Heather, Amber, Taylor, Averie, Brooklynn, Samara, Bennett and Karl.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 302 S. 7th, Salina. Burial will be in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, three miles north, one mile east, then ½ mile south of Morganville, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth.
Memorials may be made to the Saline County Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad in care of the mortuary.
