Born April 2, 1903, in Crystal Spring, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Isabelle (Beatty) Hixson. She was united in marriage to Hugh L. Carey January 17, 1942, at First Methodist Church in Huntingdon. He preceded her in death February 14, 1967.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Clara Heckman and Iva Hanks, and three brothers: Grant, Marshall and Roy Hixson.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, where she served on many committees, including the finance and administrative committees.
She was also active in United Methodist Women's Society, served as church treasurer for several years and served her church at district and conference levels.
She was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star No. 159 and first matron of Juniata Valley Court-Order of Amaranth No. 121; was a member of Donation Grange and former member of Juniata Foundation for the Blind.
She attended Fulton County schools, as well as Juniata College from 1922-1923.
She was first employed at the Grant Trust Co., which later became Penn Central National Bank, from 1923-1933. From 1933 to 1940, she was employed by Pennsylvania Industrial School. She returned to Penn Central in 1941 and retired in 1969 with 50 years of service as an assistant trust officer and assistant cashier.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, at Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon. Rev. Dr. Timothy Weitkamp officiated. Burial was made in Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlveys Fort.
