In 1920, they were living in Temple Ward 3, Bell Co. Then in 1930 they were in Concho County.
On June 9,1933 Gurtis married Eustin Eugene Clifton Cate in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. They had two children, Melvin Eugene and Norma Jean.
At one point in time they moved to Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. They live there for several years. It was there that both of their children got married. In 1962 they became grandparents, Ricky Cate and Angelia Pierce. Then again in 1965 there was another grandaughter, Tonya Cate.
Not sure just when the Cate's returned to San Angelo. Estin became a barber and had his own shop there. Most of the time Gurtis was a homemaker. And boy did she have a green thumb. She always had such pretty flowers, and a great garden.
She also kept her grandaughter after Norma and Angelia moved to San Angelo. During the summer the other two grandchildren would come for a week or two to visit. She did love her grandchildren.
On Februry 22,1977, her husband Estin died from a heart attack. They were members of the Church of Christ.
Gurtis went to live with the Lord on June 9, 2000. She was a wonderful lady that everyone loved. She is greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and many friend. She is buried at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, where her mother, father, one brother and her husband are also buried.
