" Mrs. Elizabeth Lyne died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John T. Hocking, just east of Wood, Saturday morning, March 25th, at 2:45 o'clock, after an illness of about three weeks.
Eliza Lyne was born in Lestershire, England, May 24, 1841. She came to Scales Mound, Illinois, with. her parents when but eight years of age. They were six weeks and two days crossing the ocean and two weeks more coming up the Mississippi River landing at Galena, Ill. In the year 1956 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Lyne, and to this union were born twelve children, five sons and seven daughters. Four of the daughters and one son departed this life before their mother. The husband and father passed away sone ten years ago. The children surviving her are Mrs. Josie Roberts of Hampden, Iowa, John, Benjamin and Harry Lyne of Shelsburg, Wisconsin, Mrs. Francis Ford of Council Hill, Illinois, Fred Lyne of Calgary, Canada, and Mrs. Eva Hoeking of this place. Twenty seven grandchildren and fifteen great grand children also survive her.
Mrs. Lyne came to Wood, from Scales mound, Ililnois, three years ago the coming May, and has lived here with her daughter Mrs. Hoeking ever since. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her, and her many friends will be grieved to learn of her passing away. She was the oldest member of the Ladies Aid Society of Wood.
The body was taken to Scales Mound, Illinois, accompanied by J.T. Hoeking, wife and daughter, Winifred, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roberts of Hampden, Iowa, who were here when the end came. Funeral services were held at the old home Monday afternoon, and the body was laid to rest in the family lot there."
