He was mustered out of military service with the 32nd Mass. on June 29, 1865.

Following his military service, Marcus resided at Middleboro until 1866, when he removed permanently to South Dedham (now Norwood), MA, where he worked as a shoemaker and later was a Superintendent in a Tanning shop. Marcus, then age 22, married Francena Angeline Morse, age 19 and the daughter of Oliver and Betsey, at Dedham, MA on April 24, 1866. They were the parents of Jennie M., born Oct. 7, 1868; Mabel A., born Jan. 2, 1874; Marcus M., born Oct. 1, 1876; Alton M., born March 13, 1878; and Horatio Harris, born Nov. 30, 1883.

Marcus was a member of George K. Bird G.A.R. Post No. 169 and a Mason in the Orient Lodge, both located in Norwood. He was a retired Tanner and resided at 33 Howard St., Norwood, MA, when he died at age 83 of Arterio sclerosis at Westwood Lodge, Westwood, MA.
