Chesnee, SC - Jessie Boyd Smith died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1988 at the U. S. Medical Center in Springfield, MO. He was born in Rutherford County, NC the son of the late Grace Beheler Padgett and Charles Arthur Goode. He grew up in Cherokee County, SC and worked with his grandparents Vedo and Lilllie Beheler as a farm hand. After finishing school he joined the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Jacksonville Florida where he worked as a mechanic on Corsair airplanes. When he returned home from the service he was a very successful car salesman/dealer and mechanic. He was an excellent golfer, he loved to fish, collect antique coins and pistols, and he also enjoyed having a vegetable garden. He also loved playing his banjo and listening to Bluegrass music. Most of all, he was a loving and caring father. He was preceded in death by his parents Grace Beheler Smith Padgett(1984) and Charles Arthur Goode(1961) and his two sons, J. S. Smith of Sandy Mush, NC and Jessie Boyd Smith Jr. of Norfolk, VA. Survivors include his sisters Marselle Fisher and Judy Padgett and his brother Jimmy Padgett all of NC. He is also survived by his former wife Lois Aldridge Smith of Sandy Mush NC, his son C.F. Smith and his daughters C.E. Smith and D. Smith. He is buried beside of his grandparents William " Vedo" and Lillie Byers Beheler at State Line Baptist Church in Cherokee County, SC.
