Lucille A. Bauck, 98, a resident of Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the center.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island. Visitation is 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Private burial will be Tuesday at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Church of Peace or to the American Cancer Society.
Lucille Baumann was born on Oct. 18, 1912, in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Agnes Sisco Baumann. She married Milton C. Bauck on May 28, 1932, at the Church of Peace. He died May 29, 1990.
Lu attended Rock Island schools and graduated from Brown's Business College, Rock Island. She was working as a secretary in Dubuque, Iowa, when she met her future husband, Milt.
She was a lifetime member, as well as the oldest living member of the Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island, where she was a member of the Women's Guild, had served as a deacon and a member and past president of the Ida Krueger Circle. She loved to sing and sang in the Church of Peace choir for 39 years along with singing in the Rock Island Women's Club chorus. She was an avid golfer and played in the Duke Cup and Waterman's Cup golf tournaments. Lu was a charter member of Mill Creek Country Club and past president of the Mill Creek Women and Indian Bluff Women.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, William Bauck, Dubuque; cousins, Gary Freers, Rock Island, Dr. R. Baumann, Grinnell, Iowa, and Dr. William Baumann, Fairfield, Iowa; dear friend, Marilyn Frost, Rock Island; close friend, Bea Anderson, Silvis; and many church friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; two brothers; and a sister.
