Eugene "Gene" Mayo, 77, died Saturday, August 8, 2009, at his residence. He was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Union County to the late R.C. Mayo and Mary Crumpton Mayo. He was a retired dry wall finisher. He was a member of the Martin Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Andy Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce Mayo; a daughter, Shirley Mayo Lawson; three grandchildren, Shane Mayo, Adam Mayo and Beverly Lawson Carwile; nine great-grandchildren, Wesley and Dylan Mayo, Mason and Reagan Mayo, Harley and Devin Mayo and Hunter, Rustin and McCalla Carwile.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tommy Mayo; two sisters; and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Whit Kidd, James Weeden, Bobby Lee Rogers, Alan Cousar, Jerry Mayo and Jeremy Carwile.

Tina Reynolds Howell will serve as honorary pallbearer.
