Ola was the daughter of Shelton Francis and Weltha Missouri Callaway Sapp. She grew up on the family farm near Manassas, Georgia with her older sister, Clara, and younger sister, Mertie along with her brothers (all younger) Orley, Palmer, Wallace and then later another sister, Melrose was born in 1925, the same year as Ola and Jesse's daughter, Jean was born. Ola married Jesse Powell son of Henry Powell on April 30, 1922. They lived on an adjoining farm only a half mile or so away. Ola was a busy housewife with a flock of beautiful chickens and a garden producing vegetables for her to can. She grew sweet peas and other beautiful flowers in her garden. There were cows and hogs and in the winter she made sausage and Brunswick Stew. She made delicious cakes with eggs from her chickens and the butter she churned. She made beautiful quilts with her sister, Clara, who walked several miles to join her. She and Clara wore bonnets and aprons and made dresses for their daughters. She was a member of Old Anderson Church and loved to sing the beautiful old hymns. She was survived by her husband, Jesse, her daughters, two sisters (Melrose & Clara), three brothers (Orley, Palmer and J. Wallace). Sister, Mertie, preceded her in death.
