Emanuel Jefferson Henry was born 17 April 1829 in North Carolina. He was the first born child and son of John Wiley Henry and Martha Dickey Henry.
He married Mahala Hiley Webster
Due to his wife's opposition to secession, he was arrested, tried and sentenced to be hanged in 1863 in Murphy, North Carolina. His life was spared through the efforts of a state leader and others. After his move to Fannin County, Georgia, he was considered a patriot, and helped draft the 1877 constitution of Georgia.
He was the father of 11 children.
