Mrs. Caroline Ferrel, the mother of J.W. Ferrel, Modesto rancher, died recently in Walla Walla, Wash.
Mrs. Ferrel, one of the Northwest's oldest pioneers, was born in Clayton County, Iowa, ninety-three years ago and came to Seattle in a covered wagon.
She was the daughter of George Botts and Caroline (Wright) Botts.
In 1934 she was chosen as Mrs. Pioneer at the Walla Walla Diamond Jubilee.
She was the widow of Alanson Brewster Ferrel whom she married on 21 Aug 1861 in Corydon, Wayne Co., Iowa
Surviving, besides J. W. Ferrel of Modesto, are two daughters, Mrs. Minnie M. Jones of Seattle; and Mrs. Fidela Maxson of Walla Walla; and another son, Seth Ferrel, also of Walla Walla.
