Held public offices including Mayor (Democrat) of Oberlin and Registrar of Voters for Allen Parish. Received honorary appointment from Governor Earl K. Long. Also served as President of the Oberlin Cemetery.

Donated 4 acres to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at intersection of Hwy 165 and Reed Bridge Road on July 7th, 1948.

Suffered a stroke in 1955 and spent the remainder of his life disabled and bedridden.
