Marjorie Bernice Hughes Streett of near Harbeson died of heart failure Friday, April 26, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 85.

Mrs. Streett was born Dec. 5, 1916, in Cheswold, daughter of the late Edward and Letitia Hughes.

Her early education was received at the Fork Branch School in Cheswold.

Mrs. Street married William Vernon Streett, then of Milton, Dec. 17, 1934.

She had been employed by Anderson Stokes, Thomas Dean Fooks Inc. and the former National Cash Register Co. She did her very best as long as she was able. She became very ill, resulting in disability, about 28 years ago. However, in spite of illness, she strove to be very independent, which was one of her strong characteristics.

She exemplified concerns for her friends and neighbors. She was an avid reader. Her hobbies included sewing, crafts and word search. Her favorite saying was "Nobody knows but me and my Savior." She was a very kind and caring person. She was a devoted mother of nine children. She was always dependable and noted for being on time. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Streett was an active member of Israel United Methodist Church for many years. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and served diligently as long as she was physically able. She was a faithful member of the original Young Adult Fellowship. She sang with the YAF choral group and also the senior choir. She participated in many of the activities of the church and was a loyal member. She was a great supporter of the Rabbit's Ferry PTA. She attended the Nanticoke Indian Center and, in her later years, the Huling Cove Center in Lewes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Anna Wright and Mary Ciscero; two brothers, John Hughes and William "Bill" Hughes; and her oldest daughter, Phyllis Elaine Streett.

She is survived by eight children and the respective spouses of some, Merian Carlise Harmon and Ralph Harmon of Hartly, Shirley Ann Street, William Vernon Streett Jr. and Betty Streett and Patricia Yvonne Maull and Jerry Maull, all of Harbeson, Carolyn Anita Morris and Harvey Morris, Mel Tyrone Streett and Kathy Streett and Anthony Wayne Streett and Jacalyn Streett, all of Lewes, and Joyce Arlene Shockley and Samuel Shockley of Milford; a brother, Clarence Donald Hughes of Cheswold; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
