STANWOOD -- Oscar E. Belcher, 96, of Stanwood died Friday in Warm Beach Nursing Home.
Mr. Belcher was born April 15, 1889, in Ontario, Wis., to William and Olive Lombard. Four years later his mother died leaving two children Mr. and Mrs. True Love Belcher took Mr. Belcher to raise as their son.
In 1909, he married Frances E. Cook and they had two sons, Merlin and Ralph Belcher. His wife died in 1911. Four years later Mr. Belcher married Mary Gertrude Cook, Frances' sister, in Salem, Ore., and they had two children, Merton and Geraldine.
Mr. Belcher was a farmer most of his life, farming in Oregan, Wisconsin and Selah before retiring and moving to Yakima.
Mr. Belcher was a avid fisherman. He was a faithful member of the Free Methodist Church for 75 years.
Survivors include three sons, Merlin and Merton Belcher, both of Stanwood, and Ralph Belcher of Yahima; one daughter, Geraldine Gudgeon of Stanwood; one sister Sophi Laster of Kansas; two half brother, Floyd Lombard of Kansas and Tom Lombard of Texas; three half sisters, Bertha Beguelin of Kansas, Anna Griggs of California and Irene Moorman of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 21great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mary Gertrude Belcher, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in West Hills Memorial Park.
