Clerk, Lawyer, Editor, Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly and US Senator. Born of German parentage in Edinburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia, father Madison J. Riddleberger a gunsmith by trade and stagecoach driver, mother was Susan S. Shyrock. Young Harrison had a limited education, worked as a store clerk prior to the civil war. After the outbreak of the war he joined the Confederate Army as 1st Lieutenant in the 10th Virginia Infantry company c, later he as Captain of the 23rd Virginia cavalry company G. After the war he returned to business pursuits which he soon deserted becoming editor and later sole proprietor of the Tenth Legion Banner. He married Emma V. Belew daughter of Dr. Peter Belew and Elizabeth M. Samuels. Later he studied law in the office of Henry C. Allen at Woodstock being admitted to the bar, he practiced law in Woodstock. 1871-1875 member of State house of delegates, 1876-1880 Commonwealth Attorney of Shenandoah County, 1879-1882 member of State Senate. He was editor of the Shenandoah Democrat and later the Virginian at Woodstock. 1876 was presidential elector on the Democratic ticket and the Readjuster ticket in 1880. In 1881 elected as a Readjuster to the United States Senate, serving from March 4, 1883 to March 3, 1889. He spent a great deal of time with Gen. William Mahone while in Washington D.C.. Died in Winchester, VA.
