Known as the "King of Wall Street Brokers", he was married twice - to Julia Bedloe (wife #1) in 1881 and they had one daughter together, Lillian (b-1883). They were separated in 1885 and finally divorced in 1887. He was remarried to Maud A. Legrand (wife #2) in 1887 and they had one daughter together, Beatrice (b-1888). In addition to his New York City Brokerage Firm, he was elected the first mayor of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey and served as the Commissioner of the New Jersey Fish & Game Commission for several years.
