Henry F. Keener, 88, formerly of Ephrata, died Saturday morning after a brief illness at Landis Homes, Lititz, where he lived the last two years.
In the feed business for more than 37 years, Keener was a salesman and serviceman for a full line of commercial feeds. He worked 14 years for John W. Eshelman & Sons. He previously worked for Wenger Feeds, Rheems, and Beacon Milling, Kayuga, N.Y.
Keener was a house parent at Milton Hershey School in the early 1930s.
He was a 30-year member of Brunnerville United Methodist Church, Lititz.
An avid hunter and golfer, he also enjoyed woodworking and traveling to the West Coast and New England states.
A flower and vegetable gardener, Keener twice was grand champion at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show for his black walnuts.
Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Minnie S. Flinchbaugh Keener.
His wife, Elsie G. Miller Keener, died in 1999.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy M., married to Robert G. McCafferty of Dorset, Vt., Janet M. Keener of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Joyce, married to Thomas H. Cherones Jr. of Florence, Ore.; six grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Elizabeth "Betty," married to Abner G. Miller of Lititz, and Esther S., married to Lester Keener of Elizabethtown.
He was preceded in death by a son, George Arthur.
