Fort Benton Resident Answers Final Call
Claude R. Salisbury, well known local real estate and insurance agent, passed away at the St. Clare hospital in this city on Saturday, Dec. 1, after an illness extending over the past nine months. He had resided in Fort Benton and in this vicinity since 1914. For the past 15 years he has resided in this city and for more than 10 years has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business.
Mr. Salisbury's passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends throughout this section of the county.
Claude Russell Salisbury was born July 30, 1870 at Janesville, Wis. During his childhood the family moved to Iowa where he attended school, later continuing his education at Iowa State college, taking a veterinary course. In March 1898, he was united in marriage to Mary Ormiston. They came to Montana in 1914, after having lived for a time in the state of Washington. He purchased a ranch located on the Missouri river four miles below Fort Benton, where he has since resided.
On July 26, 1928, his wife passed away. In April 1930, he married his brother's widow, Elizabeth B. Salisbury, of Burt, Iowa, who survives him. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. William B. Spear, of Elkton, Minn., and Mrs. W. A. Gramenz, of Silvius, Ill.; and four step-sons, Donald B. Salisbury of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Allen B., of Des Moines, Iowa, Howard A. of Burt, Iowa, and Ralph E., of Floweree; two brothers, C. M. Salisbury, of Wichita, Kansas, and L. L. Salisbury, of Clinton, Wash.; and one sister, Mrs. E. B. Dittmer, of Burt, Iowa.
He was a member of the Methodist church and of Benton Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Fort Benton on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 6, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Earle G. McKnight conducting the service. Masonic services will be held at the cemetery and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
