Clarence L. Elliott, 92, of Hopkinsville, KY, formerly of Mayfield, KY, and Paducah, KY, died Tuesday at Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville.

He was born in Fancy Farm, KY on June 9, 1919, to the late Clarence Leo and Mary Edith Elliott. He was a 1937 graduate of St. Jerome High School in Fancy Farm and a 1939 graduate of Happy Business College.

Clarence enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1942-1946 in the 577th Signal Depot Company with two years overseas under Generals George Patton and Omar Bradley in World War II.

Mr. Elliott retired in September, 1984 from Merit Clothing Company after over 45 years of employment, beginning employment in 1939 as a bookkeeper and auditor and later returning to the company after service in the U.S. Army in 1946. During his long tenure, he succeeded to office manager, comptroller, auditor and was appointed Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Vice President and member/secretary of the Board of Directors.

He and his wife later operated C & J Collection Service, Inc. Clarence was a licensed insurance agent for New England Mutual Life, Mutual of Omaha and Citizens Security Life.

In March, 1967, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Central Investors Life Insurance Company, now known as Citizens Security Life Insurance Company of Louisville. A member of the Board of Directors of the Mayfield Electric and Water Systems for eighteen years, he served as Chairman of the Board for sixteen of those years. In addition, he served on the Mayfield City Council for seven years. He was part owner, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer of Reeces Style Mart Clothing Corporation.

Clarence was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayfield and most recently St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Paducah and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hopkinsville. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1418, Fancy Farm, where he achieved his 3rd and 4th Degrees.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Jeanette Higdon Elliott of Hopkinsville; three children, Elizabeth Ann "Bib" Northington and husband Wade of Hopkinsville, John C. Elliott, Sr. and wife Cathy of Paducah, and Susan House and husband Brian of London, KY; seven grandchildren, Chris Northington of Louisville, Dr. Alan Northington and wife Ann of Louisville, Amy Northington Wilder and husband Bart of Hoover, AL, John C. Elliott, Jr. and wife Chrissy of Eddyville, Mary Beth Elliott Orr and husband Brandon of Paducah, Sarah C. House and Elliott C. House both of Lexington; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Elliott and his parents. A funeral mass for Mr. Elliott will be held at 1 pm Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. J. Patrick Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery in Fancy Farm.
