Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
A Knights of Columbus rosary will start at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service will take place starting at 5 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home. A military service will be presented by the Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 American Legion of Spencer.
Mr. Boyd passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Spencer Hospital in Spencer.
Robert "Bob" Hanson Boyd, the son of Arthur and Clara (Hanson) Boyd, was born October 8, 1925 in Sioux City. His childhood years were spent in Sioux City, where he received his education, graduating from Central High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the Army Air Corp from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Bob moved to Spencer, in 1948, where he began working for Northwestern Bell and U.S. West as a lineman.
Bob married Marianne Olsen on June 19, 1954 in Spencer. He worked as a central office technician for 41 years, until his retirement. Bob had a knack for nicknaming all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus in Spencer. Bob spent many years as a volunteer for Telephone Pioneers of America providing services for the visually impaired. Bob was also an active member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marguerite Connors, Eloise Lea, Shirley Bertrand, Lorraine Bourassa and Marie O'Conner and one brother, Bill.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marianne of Spencer; three daughters: Barbara (Ric) Barner of Papillion, Neb., Mary Ellen (Bill) Scarborough of LaVista, Neb. and Sarah Griffin of Spencer; one son, Patrick Boyd (Tracy) of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Butler of Sioux City; other relatives and many friends.
