Isaiah Dyer “Zade” Patterson

Grand Old Army of the Republic. No dates, Military Marker, "Co. C. 7 Tenn. Cav."


Union Soldier. He and his twin brother were in the unit captured at Union City by Nathan Bedford Forrest. They were enroute to Andersonville Prison, but they escaped."

Private, Companies K & C, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted in Scotts Hill, TN on 5/3/1863. Presumed captured with the regiment at Union City, TN on 3/24/1864, Patterson was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He escaped (probably from one of the smaller prisons after leaving Andersonville) and returned to Union lines on 12/2/1864. He was discharged with the regiment when it disbanded at Nashville, TN on 8/9/1865. On August 8, 1890 Patterson applied for an invalid pension. He was a member of Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Post #65. His widow, Ginntie Patterson, applied for a pension in March 1903.
