Karen Louise Madden 62 of Dix, Neb., died August 18, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. A Vigil Service was Thursday and a Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Karnish as celebrant. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to a memorial fund in Karen's name to be designated later by the family. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
She was born October 11, 1940 in Sidney, Neb. to Francis and Fern (Cortney) Egging. She was a life long resident of the area.
She attended St. Patrick's School until 7th Grade and graduated from Potter High School. She and Joe Madden were married in 1959 in Sidney. Karen worked for George Risk Industries for the past 18 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and the Rosary Altar Society; she was a past member of the Potter-Dix School Board. Karen loved her garden and flowers.
Karen had a genuine giving spirit. Despite the restrictions of her cancer that was diagnosed when she was 40 years old, she was determined to live her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her three sons, Brian and wife Lucy Madden of Springtown, TX; Shane Madden of Ft. Morgan, CO; Shaun and wife Jiao Madden of Omaha. Her six daughters, Pam and husband Gary Haack of Dix; Jennifer and husband Clint VonKrosigk of Riverton, WY; Julie and husband Neil Bokowski of North Platte; Mitzi and husband Arjan Kraan of Hull, MA; Amy and husband Todd Kinney of Bozeman, MT; and Jodi and husband Scott Finkel of Doyleston, PA, as well as 21 grandchildren.
Also surviving are her four sisters, Lucille and husband Don Schmidt of Livermore, CO; Colleen and husband Bob Governski of San Diego, CA; Teri de Sylva and Janet Musil both of LaPorte, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson Zachary.
