Mrs. Sargent was born July 5, 1917, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Charles and Ada McAdam Moritz. She married Dr. William F. Sargent March 1, 1941, in Cape Cirardeau, MO and he preceded her in death March 7, 1997.
She was a retired teacher and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. She was a graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle, IN Class of 1939. She taught one year at Beecher City schools, then taught in Salem.
Mrs. Sargent was an avid gardener and golfed until she was well into her 60's on the ladies league at Effingham Country Club where she was a member.
She spent many hours decorating eggs of all sizes, from quail eggs to ostrich eggs. Her many talents included sewing, needlepoint and crocheting.
Mrs. Sargent was also a precinct committeewoman for the Republican Party along with her many memberships.
Survivors include her son, Mark; daughter, Ann Killen; a brother, George Moritz; a sister, Ruth Best; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; husband; and two brothers, Don and Richard Moritz.
Memorial services were held at Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham, with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
