Came to US with parents in 1851 to Washington County, WI. Homesteaded in Highland Township, Wabasha County, MN in 1862. Married Eva Rheingans in October 1863. Enlisted in Company A, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery 10/3/1864. Later transferred to Company M, and received Honorable Discharge 9/27/1865. Fathered 8 children and continued farming until 1915, when he and Eva bought a house in Plainview. American Legion gave the military honors at the grave.
