GARDEN CITY A graveside funeral for Marion Cathleen Adkins McDowell, 89,
of Garden City, who died Monday, Oct. 24 was conducted Thursday, Oct. 27 at
Adkins Family Cemetery in Penhook by Pastor Olander (Red) English.
She was born Aug. 8, 1916 in Penhook. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Joe Henry Adkins and Lelia Oakes Adkins; husband, Willie Jackson
McDowell; brothers, Dewey Adkins, Moncie Adkins, Harold Adkins, Clyde Adkins
and Eddie Adkins; and three sisters, Florence Schmidt, Erma Bradner and
Jasmer Adkins. Survivors include one son, Guy W. McDowell of Fayetteville,
N.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Hal Lyle of Asheville,
N.C., Betty and Roy Lambert Sr. of Roanoke and Judy and Elmond Ray of Spring
Lake, N.C.; five grandchildren, Katherine Thompson and husband Johnny, Roy
Lambert Jr. and wife Becky, Jeffrey Lambert, Dawn Simmons and husband Mike,
and Christopher Ray; five great grandchildren, John Thompson, Brittany
Thompson, Shane Lambert, Cody Lambert and Katie Simmons; three sisters,
Mozelle Bowen and Polly Adkins, both of Danville, and Pauline Reynolds of
Chatham; one sister-in-law, Ruth McDowell of Springhill, Fla.; nieces; and
nephews.
Lotz Roanoke Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
