James W. Coker, 59, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., was pronounced dead Sept. 5 in Kabul, Afghanistan, while on temporary assignment with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Coker worked for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. He is survived by his wife, Marli Coker, son, James William "Jamie" Coker, Jr. of Bowman; two daughters, Lisa Gregorich and husband Tee of Goose Creek and Carrie Coker Hughes and husband Chris of Goose Creek; three brothers, Ben C. Coker, Jr. of Moncks Corner, Mack Coker of Moncks Corner and Bill Coker of Lake City; three sisters, Peggy Gagne of Goose Creek, Betty Jo Olds of Goose Creek and Juanita Young of Lake City. Will is also survived by his five grandchildren who knew him as "Pappy", Kamen, Haley, Bryce, Logan and Dylan.
