Arnold Aaron Chenoweth, 82, of Elgin, died Sept. 6 in his sleep at his home. At his request, there will be no services. Burial will be in Elgin Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Arnold was born April 19, 1929, in Enterprise to Horace Chenoweth and Elsie Varner Chenoweth. He attended schools in Enterprise where his mother taught for many years. He joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War. Arnold married Penny Ryther. They were married for 40 years.

Those who knew him say he will be remembered for his patience, compassion and kindness to others as well as for his listening skills, his understanding and encouragement.

Those who knew him say he is loved for the songs he sang, the stories he told, his deep love of music and his love of animals and nature.

He was a truck driver, a mechanic, machine operator and a mathematician. Those who knew him say he knew a great deal about animals and was talented in training them.

His family says he had the ability to calmly and patiently teach anything he knew to his children and grandchildren and that his greatest accomplishment was showing all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they were deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife, Penny; his children and their spouses, Donna and Kevin Linville of Elgin, Michael and Jennifer Martin of Midland, Texas, Wade and Chris Martin of Auburn, Wash., Jimmie and Mary Martin of Clanton, Ala., and Lynn Croghan of Walla Walla, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Elsie; and his brother and sister, Darrell Chenoweth and Margaret Esmieu.
