WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED IN OTTUMWA
ROBERT DONAHOE OF THIS CITY KILLED IN OTTUMWA SATURDAY.
Was Working With Bridge Gang at Ottumwa--No. 179 Struck Donahoe While He Was Trying to Move Hand Car From Track.

Word was received in the city Saturday of the death of a well known resident of this city, Robert Donahoe, which occurred while working on the railroad at Ottumwa. Mr. Donahoe was a member of the bridge gang under Foreman Landeborn, which was laying a sewer through the Burlington yards. About two o'clock on Saturday afternoon together with other men Mr. Donahoe was on a handcar on the north main line on which train No. 179 was approaching. As the train was approaching he tried to remove the handcar from the track. His back was towards the train and while he was trying to remove his end of the hand car the engine struck the unfortunate man and fractured his skull. He died before he was taken to the hospital. Mr. Ralph Crane went to Ottumwa Saturday evening and brought the remains back to this city. A coroner's inquest was held in Ottumwa before Coroner A.W. Slaughter and the verdict rendered was "Accidentally killed by railroad engine."
The funeral will be held from St. Alphonsus Catholic church at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Mr. Donahoe was well known and respected in this city and leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss.
He was born in Ireland sixty-five years ago.
