Well known and liked DeSoto Businessman and strong supporter of the DeSoto School teams.

Gordon L. Yancey, 80, of DeSoto, passed away at Jefferson Regional Medical Center on March 5, 2011. Mr. Yancey was owner of DeSoto Florist for 30 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He is a member of the DeSoto Elks Lodge #689, DeSoto Amvets Post #48 and DeSoto VFW Post #1831. Born April 15, 1930, in McKanda, Illinois, to the late Hosea and Mattie (nee Dillow) Yancey. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose (nee Eudy) Yancey of DeSoto.

Also survived by two sons: Barry (Beth Miller) Yancey of DeSoto and Dwight "Butch" Yancey of DeSoto; a daughter, Coach Beth Yancey of DeSoto; two grandchildren: Kyle and Alyssa; and a very special friend, Nancy Blackwell of DeSoto. Mr. Yancy also leaves behind nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers: Clel, Curtis, Kenneth, Charlie and John; and three sisters, Ruby, Helen and Pauline.

Reverend Gene Moses will be officiating the funeral service.
