Death Of McClure Smith Of Double Pneumonia Is Shock To Community At Large.

FUNERAL TO BE MONDAY

McClure Smith, representative citizen, passed away this morning at two o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Harris, North J street, with double pneumonia super induced by influenza which he contracted a week ago Friday while in Shoals having been called there by the fatal illness of his sister, Mrs Ingeby Shrum.

McClure Smith was born January 2, 1859 to Mr. and Mrs. Thorton Smith, pioneers of Martin County. He was reared there and became on of the influential farmers near Shoals.

He moved his family to this city fourteen years ago and was in employment at the mills for some time, later engaging in the cab business. Ten years ago he went into the jewelry business on East Sixteenth street which he conducted successfully until a year when he disposed of his interest to his son.

He was a man of sterling worth and was highly regarded in the business life. He was affiliated with the L. O. O. M.

He has a pleasing personality and was gental and pleasant.

For the past year he had served the county as constable and was favorably known throughout the county.

He was married to Mary I Barker at Dover Hill thirty seven years ago and to them was born a large family only one of whom, Walter has passed on.

Surviving are the wife and eight children Clyde Smith of Decatur, Ill, Mrs Ethel Harris, Ralph N., Pulaski E. and Mrs Addie Rayburn of this city. Mrs Ida M. Clifton of shoals, Hobart Smith of Linton and Fred W. Smith of Indianapolis. Ezra Smith of West Union, Mrs Sarah Simpson of Coalmount, Mrs. Mary Mason and Mrs. Theodore Holz of Dover Hill are brother and sister of the deceased.

Services will be held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Smith home, 6th and J street by the Rev Toole. Internment will be made at Green Hill.
