Gladys was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Stringtown, to Lawrence and Clara (Farmer) Ward. She married Everett Upchurch on Nov. 10, 1937. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in McAlester. She passed away at the age of 90 at McAlester Regional Health Center on Sept. 6, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Upchurch; parents, Lawrence and Clara (Farmer) Ward; son, Jim Upchurch; brothers, Quill Carter, Raymond Ward, Jack Ward, Newman Ward, Clifford Ward, Tom Ward, and sisters, Frankie Gasdin, Ethel Russell and Christine Sullivan. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elane and Wayne Puckett, of Fairmont, Linda and Dale Cantrell, of Krebs; daughter-in-law, Glenda Upchurch; grandchildren, Michael Hatfield, Robin Hatfield, Teresa Briggs, Tina Mullins and Anita Padgett; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Hugh Low Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Dan Denny officiating. Burial will be at Hugh Low Cemetery in Scipio under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
